AQUABarrier FoodGrade BioHybrid (Soon available)

Partially bio-based aqueous varnish for paper and board food packaging, with special water barrier functionality (Cobb), suitable for contact with solid foods at room temperature, refrigerated and frozen, allowing to replace the usual polyethylene (PE) and aluminum layers. As a top coat, not reprintable.

Product description

Aquabarrier FoodGrade BioHybrid Partially bio-based aqueous varnish for food packaging made of paper, cardboard and other vegetable fibres, with special water barrier (Cobb), water vapour (MVTR) functionality and good resistance to oils and greases, suitable for direct contact with solid food at room temperature, chilled and frozen.

Food varnish with a satin-gloss finish, partially bio-based, free of bisphenol A (BPA free), APEO, formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals, etc. Made with raw materials that comply with European Regulation EU 10/2011. Global migration, specific and organoleptic tests are in process for certification.

Aquabarrier FoodGrade BioHybrid is air-dried and/or temperature forced. Ideal balance of physicochemical performance in its category:

Excellent water barrier, low Cobb and MVTR.

  • High resistance to oils and greases.
  • Balanced physicochemical resistances.
  • Excellent transfer, wetting and levelling.
  • Excellent flexibility, adhesion, resistance to dry and wet rubbing (SATRA).
  • Limited reprinting and hot-sealing.
  • Good resistance to sticking-blocking, with good COF static and dynamic friction coefficients.
  • Excellent finish and transparency.
  • Recyclable and repulpable.
  • Low Voc and low odor.
  • It is not dangerous goods for use, or for transport by road, sea or air.
  • With Declaration of Conformity

Mainly used in direct, indirect or occasional contact with food, in single-use food packaging, especially for printed packaging of paper, cardboard and other vegetable fibres, as an alternative barrier coating to the polyethylene and aluminium films used in certain cases, improving the recyclability and repulpability of the final packaging (mono-material packaging).
